NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation

NEBOSH and Great Britain’s Health and Safety Regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), have jointly developed a new one day qualification that shows how non-complex incidents can be investigated effectively.

By learning lessons and making improvements, organisations can avoid similar incidents occurring in the future.
Completing the training will allow you to gain the basic skills necessary to independently investigate an uncomplicated incident. Training goes through the four steps required to conduct an adequate investigation.

This includes imparting the skills required to identify the direct, indirect and root causes of incidents. The PECE model focusing on interviews with people who can provide information about the event under study will also be presented. The knowledge, understanding and skills you will gain from this training will also enable you to contribute to more complex team investigations into incidents on a larger scale.


The training and exam will be Live Online via Zoom application:

  • Teaching and assessment 7 hours
  • Pre-course reading: 3 hours
  • Total 10 hours

Qualification grading

Your assessment will be marked by your course tutor. You will receive a ‘Pass’ or ‘Refer’ for each part of your assessment. Should you be referred, your course provider will be able to provide you with further support. Your course provider will work with you to identify where your submission did not meet the required standard. This will allow you to resubmit once you have revised your assessment
