IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM NEBOSH!

NEBOSH has announced a revised syllabus and assessment structure for the National and International General Certificates. These changes aim to better align the qualification with the needs of modern health and safety professionals.

KEY UPDATES:

Unit Renaming:
- The NG1/IG1 units will be renamed GNC1 and GIC1 (continuing as a 24-hour scenario-based assessment).
- The NG2/IG2 units will be renamed GNC2 and GIC2.
Assessment Grading (Unit 2):
- The marking system for the practical risk assessment (Unit 2) is changing from a 'Met/Not Met’ criteria to a points-based system.
- The pass mark for this unit will be set at 60%.
- Learners will receive a mark breakdown document.
Results Release:
- Results for both units will now be issued on the same day, 60 working days after the Unit 1 assessment. This ensures learners receive their full qualification outcome at once.
Submission Windows:
- The submission deadline for Unit 2 (Risk Assessment) will be 10 working days after the Unit 1 exam date.

IMPORTANT DAYS:

2 February 2026: Teaching of the revised syllabus begins.
4 March 2026: First assessments under the new specification.

What happens after the course? See how the NEBOSH IGC exam works

2-part assessment designed for real-world application:

- Unit GIC1: Open Book Exam (OBE) Take your NEBOSH exam in a quiet and safe place of your choice. You will receive a workplace scenario to analyse and 24 hours to complete and submit your answers online.
- Unit GIC2: Risk Assessment Apply what you have learned by completing a practical risk assessment based on your own (or a suitable) work environment. This assessment is marked out of 100, with a pass mark of 60%. You will receive a breakdown of your marks for each section.
Results Results for the whole qualification (both Unit GIC1 and Unit GIC2) will be issued 60 working days from the GIC1 examination date.

Włodzimierz has 17 years of experience in occupational safety, health, environmental protection, and systems management in technical and managerial roles. His corporate background spans highly regulated, high-risk industries like public utilities, construction, renewable energy, and waste management in Poland and the UK. A Chartered IOSH Member, he holds Polish and British qualifications, including the NEBOSH Diploma.

Anna is a seasoned Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager with 20+ years of experience in aviation, plastics, chemical, and FMCG industries. She has implemented safety management systems across Europe, Central Asia, and Angola, ensuring compliance with regulations. Known for her interdisciplinary teamwork, Anna enhances safety standards while driving financial benefits
